Hello KoBoToolbox Community,
I would like to share a desktop application I developed called KoBoToolbox–SPSS Data Bridge, designed especially for MEAL, M&E, Research, Information Management, and Data Management professionals working in INGOs, NGOs, and UN Agencies.
The main purpose is simple:
Take your KoBo data and create an SPSS file with just a few clicks—while automating much of the data preparation and quality-checking work in between.
Instead of manually preparing variables, restructuring repeat-group files, setting up multiple-response variables, merging datasets, and checking routing conditions one by one, the program automates much of this workflow.
What can it do?
KoBo → SPSS automated conversion
Create an SPSS dataset directly from KoBo data through a simple interface.
Repeat-group automation
Automatically process KoBo repeat-group data and integrate it into a structured master dataset, reducing manual merging and restructuring.
Easy Multiple Response handling
Automatically prepare select-multiple questions for SPSS Multiple Response analysis, avoiding the repetitive work of manually organizing many response variables.
SPSS variable and value preparation
Use the KoBo/XLSForm structure to support properly organized variables, labels, codes, and analysis-ready data.
Automated Data Consistency Checking
The program can read the questionnaire’s skip logic, routing conditions, validation logic, and consistency rules, compare them against the collected data, and identify records that may require review.
Data Quality Check Report
Potential skip, validation, or consistency issues are returned in a structured check report, making it easier for MEAL/Data Management teams to review and correct problematic cases.
The overall workflow is designed to be straightforward:
KoBo Data → One-Click Processing → SPSS File + Master Data + Data Quality Check Report
The application is also offline-capable and processes data locally on the user’s computer, which is useful for organizations working with sensitive programme or survey data.
I am currently making KoBoToolbox–SPSS Data Bridge available free of charge.
If you work with KoBoToolbox and SPSS and would like to test the program:

I would particularly welcome feedback from INGO and UN Agency MEAL, M&E, Information Management, Research, and Data Management professionals who regularly manage large KoBo datasets.
