I’m facing an issue with a form in KoboToolbox where I have already collected a lot of data on a tablet, but I cannot submit the completed forms due to what I believe is an error in the form design. The problem seems to be caused by a calculation field that was accidentally set as “required.” Because this field does not produce a visible input, it remains empty, which prevents submission. Since I have already collected a large amount of data using this form, I can’t simply fix the form without losing everything. So far, I have not been able to find a way to submit the form despite the required field issue.
I would really appreciate any advice on how to proceed. Is there a way to force submission despite the required field problem? Or are there any other workarounds that would allow me to submit or extract the data without having to re-enter everything manually?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
Welcome to the community, @Enya! If you are still stuck, you could upload your data manually as outlined in this support article Manually Uploading Submissions.
Hi Kal_Lam - thank you so much for the prompt response. It seems I am unable to upload the data manually, as I don’t have an offline-enabled Web Form with any side panel? Or perhaps I am misunderstanding this.
The data is on a samsung tablet, it was collected using the ODK Collect app. Is there any way from there to manually export it and upload it to my computer?
You can try editing the form directly on the tablet by exporting the collected data, modifying the required field in the form definition, and re-importing it. Another option is to manually edit the XML submission files stored on the device, removing the required constraint before submitting. If possible, check if KoboToolbox allows bulk data export from the tablet for manual upload.
