An issue where the dropdown list for villages appears empty after uploading a CSV file in Kobo Toolbox

Dear Colleagues,
I need to create a dropdown list of all the villages targeted by my survey, totaling about 127 villages. I was instructed to create a CSV file containing all the options, and I structured it with the following headers: list_name, name, label_english, label_arabic, and district_filter. After creating the CSV file, I uploaded it to Kobo Toolbox under the Media section and saved it.
I then created a question titled “Name of the locality” and selected the “select one from file” option. However, when I tried to preview the form, the dropdown appeared as a long, several empty circles, similar to the circle of an answer option. Despite extensive searching, I haven’t found a solution to this issue.
Could you please assist me in resolving this problem? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Best regards, Amin

@aminabualsoud, did you try to add different languages to your CSV file (that is not being displayed)?

@KaLLam. Thank you for your valuable feedback. In the first CSV file, I included a column in Arabic and three columns in English. In the second attempt, the CSV file was entirely in English.

@aminabualsoud, FYR …

@KaLLam: I have reviewed the answers and feedback. From what I understand, the system does not support the use of two languages (e.g., Arabic and English) in the same Kobo Toolbox form. In this situation, what should I do? Someone recommended merging the text of both languages. Is that possible? Thank you.

@aminabualsoud, yes! If you use it as UNICODE.

@KaLLam: Thanks alot, just to confirm, does Kobo Toolbox support UNICODE? If it does, I’m concerned that the questionnaire might become too long if we merge both languages.

@KaLLam: @KaLLam, thank you for your valuable feedback. As mentioned earlier, in the first CSV file, I included a column in Arabic and three columns in English. In the second attempt, the CSV file was entirely in English.

However, despite this, it still doesn’t work. Could you please advise on how I should proceed with this issue?

@KaLLam: I apologize for the confusion. When I changed the language to English, the problem was resolved. However, one issue remains: all the options are appearing in the respondent’s form as a full list, and I need them to appear as a dropdown list instead. How can I change or solve this issue? Thank you for your advice.

@aminabualsoud,

Please be informed that only one language is supported with the external CSV file (at the moment).

Well-noted, thank you very much
