Creating matrix table in Form Builder

I am creating a questionnaire using Form Builder. I have problems creating the ideal matrix table. The table is supposed to have the first column blank when I create it, but allows respondents to fill in answers and also select a rating or ranking of the items they have entered in the subsequent columns. Can someone please help with this? Thank you.

Welcome to the community, @zax_o! Did you go through this support article Question Matrix Response Type? It should help you solve your issue.

Many thanks for your response Kal.
I have used that option for other questions where the items were listed. But, this question is a bit different.

Let me use the example found in Question Matrix Response Type — KoboToolbox documentation to explain. The challenge I am having is that I am finding it difficult to create a question matrix where respondents will be able to first fill in the ‘Items’ column before continuing to make further selections in the corresponding Q1 and Q2 columns. I want to be able to do something like what is captured in the picture attached.

I would also like to do something like this as well.

The respondents would be able to fill in the boxes and then also select the corresponding options of whether it is wife, husband, both or none.

Thank you.

Thanks for sharing. It help me a lot.

@zax_o, OK so I now got your issue. So you meant you wish to have the first column too fillable? Could you also let us know the question type you wish to have for the first column? Is it a text question type or is it a select_one question type?

Many thanks, Kal,

Yes. You got it spot on now. I want to be able to create a matrix table using FORMBUILDER where one or more of the columns should be fillable by respondents. The questions respondents should be able to fill could have options for text, numbers, Select one or other options available across Kobotoolbox. This kind of table is already possible with Likert scale RATING table. I will be happy if it can also be done with the QUESTION MATRIX table.

See an example of the Rating’s table from my Kobotoolbox questionnaire here.

Secondly, I find it confusing working in XLS after using form builder and as such find it difficult to carry out certain operations that are only available in XLS but not in form builder. If you are able to make all operations available in form builder, I believe this will be a welcome development and a big plus for the Kobotoolbox community.

Thank you.
