Feature Request: Ability to Reject or Return a Submission

Dear KoboToolbox Team and Community,

I would like to kindly request a new feature: the ability to reject or return a submission from within KoboToolbox.

Currently, once a submission is sent, there is no built-in way to reject or flag it as invalid. For many projects, especially those involving data quality control or remote supervision, it would be very helpful to have a Reject button or status.

Why this feature would be useful:

  • It allows data reviewers to mark submissions that are incomplete, incorrect, or suspicious.
  • It avoids needing to export data and do manual filtering outside the platform.
  • It could help with workflows that require resubmissions or corrections.

Suggested features:

  • A “Reject” or “Return” button in the submission view.
  • Ability to leave a comment or rejection reason.
  • Optional notification to the enumerator or user who submitted the form.
  • Filtering options for Accepted vs. Rejected data.

I believe this would make KoboToolbox even more powerful and user-friendly for data managers and enumerators alike.

Thank you very much for considering this idea.

Best regards,
Sovann

Welcome to the community, @sovann_kh! Maybe the record validation feature should help you solve this issue?

But having said this, the system does not have a feature to send back the submissions to the enumerators. However, the enumerators could edit their records if a row-label permission was managed to the project.
