In many cases when collecting data, responses to some questions do not change for many surveys / submissions. For example, when surveying children in a given class, all (most) children would have the same age. Is it possible to override the default value for a given question, so that it is preserved from one form (response) to another?

You might use last-saved function if you use ODK Collect, (what is generally preferable).

@janekb, @wroos, with the upgrade of pyxform, KoBoToolbox now supports the last-saved feature. For those members who do not know how to design an xlsform, you could do it as outlined in the image shared below:
In the survey tab of your xlsform:
Reference xlsform:
Last Saved.xlsx (10.0 KB)
Note: This feature at the moment is only supported through the Collect android app. The Enketo still does not support this.
