Qualitative analysis helps you turn open-ended audio responses into actionable insights. This is especially valuable in research and emergency response settings, where important context can be missed in quantitative data alone.

Our new AI-powered analysis feature enables you to automatically analyze your audio data directly in KoboToolbox for fast, accurate insights.

  • Create analysis questions to summarize, categorize, or describe audio responses.
  • Click Generate with AI to automatically answer analysis questions.
  • Review AI-generated responses and mark them as verified to confirm output accuracy.
  • Each analysis field is added as a separate column in your data table, along with its verification status.
  • In data exports, an additional column indicates whether the analysis was manual or AI-generated.

The feature is now available to all KoboToolbox users, with higher usage quotas available on our paid plans or by purchasing an add-on.

This release also includes an important upgrade to our automatic transcription and translation features, including support for more languages and improved accuracy.

Hello, thank you for this update! Is there a list of languages supported for the transcript and analysis?

Hi @dianedetoeuf,

For the transcript we use Google’s Speech-to-Text V2 API. I believe you can find a list of the supported languages here

For the analysis we are currently using the open source model gpt-oss-120b. This LLM is trained predominantly in English and performs best in that language, though it also supports many others as you can see here.

We plan to include more of this information in our documentation and the platform soon.
