calculate type is always not visible (but stored in the data). If you want to make it visible, keep the calculation, but use another type, e.g. integer, add a label and read_only (true).
Even for an (internal) variable of type calculate, I would recommend adding a label, as this will show in case view, table view, reports and export (otherwise “unlabeled”).
Unfortunately, I think, you cannot change a type in Formbuilder, but with XML form download, change in Excel and re-import.
