Hi KoboToolbox Community, Core Support Team @Kal_Lam ,
Is there a way to recover submitted data before validation / editing?
We deployed a project and just finished with data collection and validation. However, upon checking the data again, we noticed that data for a particular data column / variable (set as a required item) was missing. This may be attributed to a calculation that we specified, which unintentionally overwrote the user-specified responses. But, technically, this should not have been the case as the calculation was incorrect (i.e., not applicable)?
@hm11, that should not be the case. Maybe you will need to try if those data were sent to the server manually or if those data were edited in the server (through bulk edits). Under these circumstances, the mandatory responses could be overlooked.
hi @Kal_Lam , data were collected both via Collect and Enketo. data were sent to server right after submission. no bulk edits made. however, we used the the data table view within Kobo to validate per submission and double check some items. it was during this process that the response for the Occupation section went missing (please refer again to screenshot provided above under data edit view via enketo). hence, upon resubmission, the new data value shows as “false”
Did you change the form during or after data collection? - NO
Did you check the form (versions) with the Online validator, please? - YES we did use the online validator prior deployment for ease of checking, and another round of checking via the Kobo platform upon deployment
