Replacing the name of a field and re-submitted data

Hello

I have this problem:
I have to change a form
keeping the same url, but replacing the name of a field, which I need in processing.
But by doing this, I lose the already submitted data from processing.
I have two possibilities:

  • given the submissions are not many (42) I edited them one by one by re-inserting the old data in the new field
  • or I use the API, but I don’t know it’s easy and doesn’t involve possible errors that can make the situation worse
