@jhastings, sorry, this is how the form builder UI behaves at the moment.
@Kal_Lam has this bizarre behavior been solved since 2021? I face the same problem: exported a form with matrix questions to xlsforms and reimported (to fix choices that were scrambled because there was more that 5 -also a bug from circa 2020), then my matrix questions were gone, replaced by a series of groups and labels. They display fine en Enketo, but are not editable properly on Kobotoolbox. Is there a way to fix it?
