Using External GPS device as opposed to Tablet Internal GPS

I am relatively new to KoBo Toolbox, but my team and I have been using it with a tablet. We need to use gps coordinates to record our data and recently purchased a geode sub-meter gps unit. Is there a way switch the settings in KoBo to use an external gps unit (the geode) to obtain its gps coordinates rather than it using the internal gps in the tablet?

Logically, if you can have your phone set to collect GPS coordinates using the alternative as a default, then KoboCollect should be able to use this particular one to collect it. As I said, I have not tested this approach; I would therefore appreciate if you documented your tests for sharing with the wider group
