Hello, we have a form that includes background audio collection. We want interviewees to be able to opt out of the recording while still continuing with the interview.
However, while it looks like KoboCollect allows enumerators to turn background audio collection ON/OFF, the web form (which is what most enumerators will be using) does not seem to show this option. If we click ‘x’ on the pop-up window instead of “OK” the audio starts recording any way.
Is there a setting in the XLS that we can adjust to make the background audio recording optional?
Welcome to the community, @dn123! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Please be informed that the background-audio feature is a new feature we recently introduced with KoboToolbox. As such, it still has room for improvement. We will record this as a suggestion/bug and will update you once it has been fixed, updated, or upgraded.
@dn123, our team is currently working on a feature improvement to implement your suggestion for background audio recording. In the meantime, you can block background audio from the web browser by making a small change in your browser settings.
You can do this by going to Browser > Settings > Search Microphone>making the necessary changes (set it to Block)>Save Changes. Please note that these settings may vary slightly depending on the browser you are using.
