I have downloaded the apk from both the project file as well as the google app store and attempted to install. the install fails without any useful message. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. K
Hi Karen, what kind of device are you installing on? What version of Android?
KoBoCollect should run on any phone or tablet running android 1.5 or later. Certainly, installing from the google Play app store should be foolproof, since the app store knows what type of device you are using. I would be interested in knowing if when you install from the app store, if the KoBoCollect page says that this app is compatible with your device?

Thank you for your reply. I am using a Nexus 7 with the 4.2.1 jellybean release. it is the 16GB version of the tablet. I am unsure if there is a special setting that may have to be set on the device. K

Hi Karen,
Do you have any other digital data collection app installed? KoBo and ODK cannot be installed on the same device.

Patrick, Thank you that did the trick. Could you perhaps explain why this is the case?? Thank you, K

KoBoCollect is based on ODK Collect (with some extra bells and whistles built in), so they share the same file structure, that is, they both store their blank forms and completed instances in the same location in storage. Therefore, you can either use one or the other.
The benefit is compatibility between ODK and KoBo products. You can use KoBoForm to build surveys that will work with Open Data Kit, or you can collect data with KoBo that will sync to an ODK Aggregate server. When ODK improves their software, we incorporate those improvements into KoBo, and when we make developements of our own, we submit those back to ODK or Javarosa to that they can benefit as well. It’s the beauty of working in open source software.

Neil is right, but more specifically I understand that it has to do with the fact that KoBoCollect and ODK use the same libraries. Collect is the only App we built that is directly based on ODK, with support for additional features. We will be working on resolving this soon - the other elementsin KoBoToolbox shoudl all be compatible with ODK tools as well.
Good luck on your project!
