Dashboards on Kobo and no coding

Hi Kobo community,

Does KoboToolbox currently offer a built-in dashboard feature that allows users to combine and visualize data from multiple surveys?

We’re an NGO using the free version of KoboToolbox to collect data across several sites, and we’re hoping to develop a simple dashboard or tracking system—similar to what Salesforce can do—that consolidates data from different surveys in one place. Ideally, we’d like to do this without purchasing licenses or hiring external developers.

Is this kind of functionality available directly through KoboToolbox? If not, are there recommended workarounds or integrations that don’t require advanced technical skills?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated—thank you!

Hi @projectsoar ,

Have you explored OpenFn? I made a video detailing how you can get data from Kobo into GoogleSheets for visualization. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/OXY7x4V67_g?feature=shared

OpenFn offers free consulting so you wouldn’t need any coding expertise for this.
If you are interested in this please reach me via email at pius@openfn.org

Thank you.

Hi @projectsoar,

There is build-in dashboard structer in the Kobotoolbox but you can’t merge forms etc. It is only applicable for what is in the form. I would highly suggest you to use Microsoft Power BI directly and support by the Kobo’s API interface without needing any other integration tool and It is highly advanced bussiness anatalict tool with dynamic filtering. You also can use many more sources, such as excel sheets, SQL database, and even you can integrate your salesforce data directly into Power BI to create one unified data analysis. You can use it without purchase a lisance or hire external developers, there is tons of tutorials and free trainings.

Hi @osmanburcu thank you so much for your reply!

Would you mind sharing any resources that could help me get started with using Power BI? I reached out to one of our partners who integrated Kobo with Power BI, and they mentioned that it required some coding and that they hired a third party for the setup.

If you know of any simpler methods to use Power BI—ideally without needing a license or coding—I’d really appreciate it if you could point me to any useful guides or resources. Thanks again!

Hi @projectsoar,

As a person providinh external support, i can assure you coding is not needed at all and hiring a third party is not needed. You can check the help page of kobo or if you need a tutorial you can check my tutorial as well but the url changed after i made the video, if you see kobo.humanitarian.org as link you can replace it with eu.kobotoolbox.org or kf.kobotoolbox.org depend on your server. If you have more question, please feel free to reach out!

Thank you, @osmanburcu. The link you shared isn’t something I would have naturally thought of, but I’m eager to learn. I do have a question: you mentioned that the “basic” authentication option is specific to surveys, does that also apply when connecting to Power BI?

Hi @projectsoar, i did not understand you question fully. can you explain?
