I am writing to report a serious issue we’ve encountered while using Kobo Collect for a survey conducted in 2023.
Our team successfully used it to collect data for a project that involved over 1000 questionnaire submissions. However, following a major and prolonged electricity shutdown in our country due to an ongoing conflict (between January and March 2024), we noticed a significant data loss in our form submissions.
We are currently only able to access around 700+ questionnaires, which means that approximately 300+ submissions have gone missing. We’re unsure exactly how or why this happened — whether it’s due to unsynced data, deletion, or system-related loss — but we were hoping that there might be a way to retrieve or recover these missing forms.
We would appreciate any support or guidance on that
Welcome back tot he community, @esramahgoub91!
Could you also let us know whether you were able to successfully submit the data from your device to the server, or if the submissions are still stuck on the device? Additionally, could you share how the data was collected; did you use the Collect Android App or Enketo?
In general, once data is submitted to the server, it should not go missing.
Thank you for replying. We collected the data using the Collect Android App, and it was successfully submitted. We were able to see that the total number of submitted forms was more than 1000. I hope there might be a way to retrieve the data.
Hi @esramahgoub91, have you verified the submission numbers specifically for the intended project within the Collect Android App? Sometimes, the total count may include submissions from other projects as well, which could lead to confusion.
