Going through my data and realised some portion are missing though had been uploaded . Tried checking on the possible cause and it seemed deployment of a new version of the surveyed might have been the cause of this. All the data before deployment of this form has been affected. Could someone help on the ways of recovering this very vital data. Thanks

I’ve had a similar issue of data loss. Been using Kobo for about a month now to digitize records for a local non-profit.
In my case the forms had not been submitted, only saved as drafts locally on the tab (about 20-25 in total).
Tried to determine if the users who had done the data entry had accidentally deleted records, but it doesn’t seem like any of the browser cache, history etc has been deleted.
I also have not changed the version of the form, it has been the same for more than a month.
If anyone has an idea how to locate the folder where the data is stored I can attempt a data recovery.
I can share the form link privately if needed. Please do help.

Hi everyone,
It sounds like there are different issues experienced by different people. We are aware of a bug with multi-version forms not exporting columns for questions that are no longer present in the most recent deployed form version. So if you created question A, collected some data, but then deleted question A from the form before redeploying, column A is not exported with the new labeled format. We are working on this issue currently and will have a fix deployed shortly. Note that Legacy XLS and CSV exports still export column A as expected, so this issue is limited to the new export format only.
Craig, you’re referring to draft submissions that were saved in the browser but not submitted to the KoBoToolbox server yet. We’ve done a lot of testing and the only time that such draft data would be deleted from the browser’s offline storage is if someone emptied the browser cache, reinstalled it, or did something else that would have removed the offline storage. Users might have tried to delete their browsing history and inadvertently emptied their cache as well, for example. Another common mistake (seems unlikely in your case) is that users may use different browsers and fail to find draft submissions because they used a different browser, or because they logged in with a different user account. You can post a message at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/enketo-users if you want more troubleshooting help.

Tried to see if there was any possibility of the cache being recovered if it was deleted. However there doesn’t appear to be any straightforward method.
In any case I think we’ll use the local KoboCollect app from here onwards, since at least that way we have access to the locally stored data.

Getting your explanation but my case is different .
No question was deleted in the deployment of the newer version ,only added a number of questions to the old form and redeployed the form.
Downloading data after the deployment of the newer version returns blanks for all the columns of the data collected(save for meta data) using the older form though this data was present before deployment of the newer form version. Could this be a bug?? and if it is a bug,is there a way I can use to recover the data .

I am also facing the same problem with Kevin. I have added new questions to the existing project and deployed. When I create new export some of the data from my existing project doesn’t appear in my new export even though I didn’t deleted the existing questions. If I download using the old export it still appear the data. Could you please suggest?

I have a similar issue: I had a form with a couple of faulty questions that were unanswerable (the choices were not presented in a “select one” question), but given fieldwork constraints, this form had to be used until it could be updated, so I have 35 surveys that could not be marked as completed and sent, because these faulty questions were mandatory. Instead of fixing and redeploying this form, I deployed a new clone so new surveys wouldn’t be compromised, but now I wonder if I can somehow retrieve the 35 incomplete surveys from the old form version manually. Does anyone know how I can do that?
Cheers,

Hi Everyone
please I need help I had uploaded some data but unfortunately I cannot get access to the data in the project (legacy) despite the fact that the number of the data is increasing as I upload to the database.
I actually attached a screen shoot of what really displayed when am trying to get access to the uploaded data in the s3 server. Though the number is keep on increasing as we are uploading the data.
Have you tried out downloading your data through the Form Builder User Interface as outlined in the support article Exporting and Downloading Your Data.
