Downloaded Excel Data is Unreadable

The screenshot above is what our data looks like when we download it to an excel file. We cannot interpret it and thus we are unable to do any additional analysis.

  • It looks like the file format is CSV, but this is what I got when I selected “XLS” as the format. I tried it both with “labels” and “XLM values and headers” for the Value and header format. My colleagues had the same issue.

  • Additionally, according to your previous answers, we have already cleared all the “downloads” that are visible under the Exports, cleared “Last unsaved settings” and then made a fresh download with the XLS format.

But all of those solutions couldn’t solve our issue. What should we do to download it as an XLS file?

For your reference, I am also attaching the screenshot of the “data downloads” screen of our project.

@yeshink, could you kindly let us know the server you are using? Is this an issue with a single project or is it an issue with other projects too?

Yes, I am using Chrome in Windows 11. Since I’m only working on one project right now, I don’t know if the same problem occurs in other projects as well.
Thank you for your help and I hope you can resolve this issue.

@yeshink, it seems like you are trying to open your file in CSV file format. You may need to download your data in the XLS file format. If you keep getting the CSV file format when downloading your data, you may need to press the small thrash bin icon as shown in the image below:

In addition to this, you may also need to select XLS under Select export type. Hope this helps. In addition to this, you could also choose the XLS (legacy) under the Select export type to get your data in the XLS file format.

All other methods didn’t work, but I could download an intact file by selecting XLS (legacy). Thank you for your help!

@yeshink, could you kindly share with me the following information through a private message so that I can have a closer look at your case (to see if it’s some bug):

  • Username
  • Project name
  • Server

Note: You could share with me a private message as outlined in the post discussed previously:

Thank you, @Kal_Lam. In the meantime, we set the language of the questionnaire (Haitian Creole) and cleaned some of the data. We don’t know what the problem was, but now we can download the data in XLS format! Anyway, thank you so much for your help and kindness.
