Downloads and Variable Formart

The Kobo Collect Excel download has the same variable appearing as both numeric and string types in the same column. How do I fix this error? For exmple, i have coded 1= “Urban” but my download file has “1” and “urban” appearing in the same download file under one column

Well this is kind of new to new. Which format have you downloaded the data.

Also did the form have different versions ??

downloaded in xls and i added few questions to the original tool

Can you try to check the difference of the same question among the two versions of the data.

also you can try this.:: download data for the current version only and then download data that include both version you can easily identify the issue

Last resort; you can just recode the answers using excel, stata etc

The questions are the same, i just added 4 more questions.

how do i do the second point, to download data for the current version only

this is not a once of survey but data is collected every day, everymonth, this suggest i would need to code the data in stata everytime i download the dataset.

when you go to kobo reports, same variable is appearing twice as shown in those pictures

untiK the option of [include fiels from all ** versions} then download you data. after that download again inwith the tick on to include all versions and inspect please

Hint: Try hard, please, to avoid changing variables and choices during data collection. In case you need to change, test it with cloned forms and some existing data before deployment of the form update. Include data transfer, e.g. export, in this testing.
