Error when accessing settings in kobo form

I’m getting what seem to be java errors with Kobo Form Designer. Firefox was a complete no go, even after updating the plugin, so I tried with Safari - which seemed to be working until I tried to access the settings and got thrown an error.

Can anyone help?
Thanks
Allister

Am using:
Java Plug-in 10.13.2.20
Using JRE version 1.7.0_13-b20 Java HotSpot™ 64-Bit Server VM

Are you accessing the KoBo Form Designer at http://www.kobotoolbox.org/koboform/?

If not, what is the version number in the upper left corner of the browser ?

OK, that’s fine. You are being forwarded to the correct formbuilder, V 1.0.23

If you are getting errors like that it is usually one of two things:

  1. Browser Compatibility issue
  2. Java plug in issue.
You should be using Firefox. No promised on Safari working correctly.

Also, you should make sure that your plug-ins are up to date by going through the automated plug-in check at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/

You want to see something like this:

Since you mentioned Safari, are you on a Mac? That shouldn’t be a problem, but we have less Mac users and so less testing there.

Hello Neil,

I am also having trouble I have check Java and Firefox and both are upto date.
I have tested both the offline and online version and both fail open a xml file stored locally on the PC.
I was running win7 64bit, so decided to try in a Virtual Machine with 32bit windows, and it works fine there.
Please confirm if we should only be using 32bit OS?

Kind regards,

Dilan

Another user was having similiar issues, so you may see that this answer shares a lot with that answer:

These sound like issues with the Java plug-in.
When your Java plug-in is wonky, it gives you issues interacting with the local file system, so save file and open file dialogs can produce an error, or just show you a blank dialog.

Can you send a screenshot of your error?

Please make sure you’ve cleared the cache and try again.

If none of that works. Go to the Java Control Panel, in the Window’s Control Panel, then go to the Advanced Tab and enable the Java Console, so we can see what the problem is.
