Failed - Large Media Attachments (6GB)

Dear KoboToolbox Support Team,

I am experiencing issues with exporting media attachments from my project and would appreciate your assistance.

Account Details:

  • Username: fayez_70

  • Email: fayez.hadraj@iiacss.org

  • Project ID: an8uHXPVsktExdPoMxzQCF

  • Issue Description:
I am trying to export media attachments (ZIP format) from my project, but the export keeps failing. The most recent failed attempt was on April 24, 2026, at 4:46 PM.

Additional Information:

  • Total data size: Approximately 6GB

  • Export type: Media Attachments (ZIP)

  • Previous successful export: March 29, 2026

I suspect the large file size (6GB) might be causing the export to fail or timeout.

Request:
Could you please:

  1. Investigate why the media attachment export is failing

  2. Provide a solution or alternative method to download this large dataset

  3. If possible, increase the timeout limit or provide a chunked download option for large exports

I need to download this data for analysis purposes. Please let me know if you need any additional information from my side.

Thank you for your support.

Best regards,
Fayez Hadraj

@fayez_70, this is something we are improving in our system. So at the meantime, maybe try using this Python snippet.

Tuve que descargar más de 65 GB de audios de uno de mis proyectos y presentaba ese problema en el momento de descargar, lo que me funciono fue seguir esta guía de soporte de kobotoolbox: Downloading photos and other media — KoboToolbox documentation -

For slow connections or very large projects: Using DownThemAll

The ZIP download method will always include all the media files in your project. This can take a long time to download in case of a large number of images or videos collected or in case of a slow connection. Here’s a workaround for downloading all (or a selection of) media using the popular DownThemAll download manager (only compatible with the Firefox browser):

  1. Save your Excel file with the hyperlinks added (see instructions above) as an HTML file in your Desktop, using the File option > Save As… (choose “Website”)

  2. Log in to your KoboToolbox account where your photos are hosted using the Firefox browser

  3. In Firefox install the DownThemAll extension

  4. Still in Firefox, open the saved HTML web page from Step 1

  5. Right-click somewhere on that page and choose DownThemAll!, or click the extension’s button in the Firefox toolbar

  6. In the extension window that opens, click Download. By default, Firefox will save all files in your computer’s Downloads folder (which can be changed)

  7. Optional: In the window that opens, set a download speed limit to avoid using all available bandwidth. The settings also allow you to set the number of attempts that should be made for each file in case of connection issues.
