Inconsistency with repeat within a repeat group

Hi Folks,

I have created a repeat within a repeat, and I seem to get inconsistent results when I preview the form (not even deployed!). I cannot understand what is going on here, and I cannot find a solution in any of the posts related to this subject.

My simple form is here:
6 Diagnostics v1.xlsx (11.5 KB)

And below are the screenshots showing the inconsistency in what I see when I preview the form. Screenshot 1 is the first response: I selected Yes, and got the repeat window for entering details on any number of species found in this 1st insert.

Screenshot 2 is what happened when I went to add information for a 2nd insert: I. selected No for the last question, and got a blank white box.

And screenshot 3 is the next entry, when I want to add information for a 3rd insert. This time, I again selected yes to the last question, but the repeat window that allows me to add information (i.e., as seen in screenshot 1) doesn’t appear.

How can I resolve this so it works consistently and properly? This is problematic if enumerators cannot answer the questions.

Many thanks, Tania

@taniak, could you share with us a video recording of your screen so that we could capture the exact steps you followed? As of now, I am getting a different screen from what you have shared.

Sorry, I’ve been out of internet connection. I have made a video which ends where I select yes for other bycatch, but don’t get the drop down menu of orders to select. I have tried to make as short/small a file as possible, but it’s still too large to upload, so here is a link. I hope this works.

Thanks,
Tania

Hi Folks,

I was never able to resolve this issue, and the same thing is happening in another form. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. This is (a) proving to be an issue for enumerators, and (b) resulting in our not being able to record the data. Today I went into a record to edit it, thinking that I could manually edit the record and enter data the enumerator was unable to enter. I was faced with the same issue the enumerator faced in the field: the drop-down menu did not appear: see below.

So then I changed the Q on nuts on the ground from Yes to No, submitted and saved the record:

I saved the record, refreshed the submission, and went back in to edit again. I changed the selection from No to Yes, but got the following incorrect result - no drop-down men):

The correct result should be a drop-down menu that looks like the following, although of course, without any of the values filled in:

This code is within a group with other repeat loops, as can be seen from the code below. all the other repeats work fine.

This is very frustrating, because we are losing important data. It is also frustrating that it sometimes works and sometimes does not work, exactly as in the first example I posted on early in July. Please, does anyone have a solution?

Many thanks, Tania

I am still struggling with this. Today I decided that I would take screenshots of all the data for each sample for which information could not be fully entered in the field. The enumerator had sent me the data they were unable to enter. I then used the app myself to enter this data: I had 3 samples in the one record that I had to re-enter all the data for. I successfully entered the data for one sample, including all the nut information in the screen grab above. But when I went to enter data for a 2nd tree, I was unable to get the dropdown menu to add this nut information in. I had to enter 3 separate records, instead of being able to enter one record with data for 3 samples. Help, please! I have looked at the coding, and I cannot see why this particular repeat loop doesn’t work, when other repeat loops in the same form work fine.
