Installing/Running KoboToolBox on Tablets

I am working on a research project and would appreciate if someone can answer the following questions -

· Can I install the entire Kobo Toolbox (the entire app + database) on a mobile device (such as iPad or MS surface) and collect data while offline

· Can the app analyze and interpret data even if it is offline

· Is it possible to transfer the data (the entire collected field data) to the server when there is wifi or Internet access.

· Is it possible to access the data in the Kobo App/database using Kobo APIs?

Thanks so much!

You can install Kobocollect or other ODK collect derivates on a Android device. There is not official support for ipone, ipads and surface for the native apps. You can use the broswer on the ipad or MS surface to collect data, through enketo.

Yes, data can be collected whilst offline, kobotoolbox and ODK based toolsets were desired with offline capabilities in mind.

· Can the app analyze and interpret data even if it is offline

I dont think data analysis is supported on the device side both in online and offline mode (for ODK I know its not supported). On the server side I am sure you should be able to do some analysis with kobotoolbox, if not, you can easily publish to Google Sheets, Tableu …

· Is it possible to transfer the data (the entire collected field data) to the server when there is wifi or Internet access.

Yes, you can even set auto send on Wifi connection.

You can even pull the data off the device using Briefcase. If you decide to use briefcase there is no need to setup a server.

· Is it possible to access the data in the Kobo App/database using Kobo APIs?

From the server side, I guess yes.
