Is there a way to make child forms automatically inherit and sync with a base form's questions?

Hello Kobo community,

I am researching whether KoboToolbox supports live form-structure inheritance between forms, and I would like to confirm with the community before concluding that it is not natively possible.

What I need

I have one base form with around 100 shared questions (respondent details, household details, location, etc.).

I need multiple child forms, where each child form contains:

  • All 100 base questions, plus

  • Its own additional questions specific to that child

My key requirement: when I update a question in the base form, all child forms should automatically reflect that change — without manually editing each child.

I have looked at Question Library, Templates, Dynamic Data Attachments, and Library Locking, but all of them appear to be copy at design time (no live sync after the copy).

My questions:

  1. Is there any native KoboToolbox feature that supports this kind of live structural inheritance?

  2. Is anything like this on the roadmap?

  3. Has anyone implemented a similar requirement, and what approach did you use?

Thank you in advance

Welcome to the community, @janithr! So if I understand your issue correctly, you will have one base form with say Q1. What is your name? You link this form with a child form and you have the same question, Q1. What is your name? Now as you edit the question in the base form (parent form) with say, Q1. What is your NAME? So this change should reflect in the child form without needing to update (edit) the child form. Did I understand your requirement correctly?
