KoboCollect Permissions (Allow KoboCollect to make and manage phone calls?)

Hi I got a question from one of my users. When first opening a form on the KoboCollect android app, they got a permissions prompt “Allow KoboCollect to make and manage phone calls?” and it sounded scary. However, I was unable to explain exactly why this permission would be needed

Could someone explain why this permission is needed? I could explain the other permissions but it sounds like the app might want to make phone calls, when I know that’s probably not the case.

I suspect this is probably un-intended fallout from ODK Collect/KoboCollect wanting to use the phone’s microphone (to performing audio recording, not actually initiate calls… [sic]).
