Linking Kobo forms

Can multiple Kobo forms (baseline, follow-ups) of individual study participants be linked? So that all data from a single participant can be accessed together?

Hi @smriti0607 and welcome to the community!

I think what you are looking for is dynamic data attachments. This help article is a good way to start to learn about it, and there are various approaches in the community forum aswell. Take a look into it and if you have further specific questions about the issue, feel free to ask.

Anyone from Support team!

I am writing to request assistance with a persistent issue affecting dynamic data attachments on my KoBoToolbox account.

Projects Involved:

  • Parent Project: SCD Registration Form
  • Child Project: SCD Follow-up Form

Issue Description:
I have enabled dynamic data sharing in the parent project and selected all fields for sharing. The form has two approved submissions. In the follow-up form, I’ve successfully imported the registration project using the alias parent and implemented pulldata() to retrieve participant information (e.g., first_name) using patient_id.

Despite this setup, the system does not generate the dynamic dataset (parent.csv), and no data is pulled into the child form. The attachment does not appear under the media section of the follow-up project. I’ve waited well over 10 minutes and attempted multiple remedies — including redeploying both forms, re-linking the projects, and testing in both Enketo and KoBoCollect — but the issue persists.

Steps Already Taken:

  • Verified that data sharing is enabled in the parent project
  • Submitted and confirmed two approved records
  • Selected all fields to share
  • Imported the parent project into the follow-up with the correct alias
  • Deployed both forms after setup
  • Waited for sync and tested in multiple environments
  • Reviewed and followed all KoBo documentation and forum guidance

This issue is blocking our longitudinal data collection process and requires urgent resolution. Kindly assist by:

  1. Confirming whether this is a known issue with dynamic data attachments.
  2. Checking if there is an account- or project-specific reason the attachment is not generating.
  3. Advising on any steps we can take to resolve the problem.

I am available to provide additional information or files if needed. Thank you for your support.

@milimo254 Hi,

I am currently using the dynamic data attachment without any issue, It would be great if you can share your forms to check if there is any problem regarding to form or connection established.

Thank you Osman for getting back.

Please see attached the forms.(parent and child)
I still haven’t found a solution.

I also encountered this error severally during importing:
