Merging selections from select_multiple inside a repeat

I have a select_multiple called select_food_type

fruits

meats

fish

dessert

I create a repeat based on what are selected from select_food_type, I show additional choices inside each iteration

Iteration #1

FRUITS

apples

oranges

grapes

banana

Iteration #2

DESSERT

flan

candy

jam

cake

Question #1: how do i merge selections from FRUITS and DESSERT so that i get a space-delimited-array? The array will contain ( oranges grapes candy jam )

Question #2: how do i find out the total numbers of selections made? (2 in FRUITS and 2 in DESSERT

Question #3 Can i make a repeat that walks through all of the elements in the array ( oranges grapes candy jam )?
