No geopoint responses have been received

Hello,

I am having a problem with geopoint questions in KoboToolbox.

The map is not showing any collected points, and I see this message:

“No geopoint responses have been received.”

This is happening in all my forms, not just one. The forms have geopoint questions, but the coordinates are not appearing on the map.

Could you please help me understand what might be causing this?

The geopoint question is inside a begin_group, but it is not inside a begin_repeat.

Until a few days ago, the points were being displayed correctly on the map. I did not make any changes to the forms. They simply stopped appearing.

This is happening in more than one form.

@Sanabria, could you kindly provide me with the following details through a private message? Maybe I could have a closer look at your case?

  • Username
  • Project name
  • Server

But in the meantime it would be helpful if you could at least give us a tentative date from when the geopoint error message started popping up in the Map page.

I personally first experienced this issue between April 20th and 29th (I don’t recall the exact date, but I hope this information could be helpful…)

Adding my case to help with the investigation of this bug.

Same issue here: “No ‘geopoint’ responses have been received” message on the Map view, while coordinates are clearly present in the Table view.

Setup details:

  • Server: kf.kobotoolbox.org

  • Project: agricultural diagnostic survey for açaí producers in Pará state, Brazil (LABGEO / EMATER-PARÁ)

  • Geopoint question is inside a begin_group (not inside a begin_repeat)

  • Field type: geopoint with appearance: placement-map

  • 21 valid submissions, 19 with geopoint coordinates correctly captured (verified in Table view, format lat lon alt acc, all within expected bounding box for Marajó/Belém region)

When it started: late April 2026, matching the timeline reported by other users in this thread.

Troubleshooting already attempted (none resolved the issue):

  • Created a brand new project from scratch, importing a clean XLSForm

  • Deployed the form fresh

  • Performed a test submission via Enketo, manually placing the point on the map

  • Confirmed the test submission appears in the Table view with valid coordinates

  • Map view still displays “No geopoint responses have been received”

  • Tested in incognito browser mode and a different browser

  • Confirmed XLSForm passes pyxform validation (including ODK validate)

Other observations:

  • The map controls (gear/settings icon) appear briefly and then become unresponsive — same behavior reported by @wfpclaros in the related Spanish-language thread

  • The issue affects both the original project and any newly created projects on my account

Confirmed.

It appears that if the geopoint is inside a group, it is not being recognized and not picked up by the map. And I expect much the same if it is inside a repeat group.

Hi everyone, same issue here, I noticed it only yesterday, but it was still working on 27/4/2026 at 11:42 (GMT+2), Kobotoolbox does not show a map anymore (“no "geopoint” responses have been received”). There is only one geopoint in the form, within a group of questions I use only to organize (with no repeat). server is kf.kobotoolbox.org.

I am experiencing the same issue in one of my KoboToolbox projects. The form contains a valid geopoint question, and the GPS coordinates are correctly stored in the dataset. I have verified that the geopoint variable is present and populated for all relevant submissions. The field is not inside a repeat group, and I have not made any changes to the form structure or variable names since the data collection was completed.

The map was displaying correctly when I last checked the project about a month ago, but it is now showing the message: “No ‘geopoint’ responses have been received.” This appears to be a platform-related issue rather than a problem with the form or data.

Could you please investigate and advise if there is a workaround or an expected timeline for resolution?

This has now been fixed in latest release a couple of days ago. See Release 2.026.12h · kobotoolbox/kpi · GitHub

I’ve tested and confirmed it is now working on Global and EU servers. If you are on one of our private servers and still seeing a blank map then please let us know. If you are running your own Kobo server then you should redeploy the latest release to pick up this fix.
