Option for "Select One" to dynamically add options to list

Greetings.
We have a question that you “Select One” and a drop down of species is shown to choose from. Is there a way to allow users to add to this drop down list from the form in the field? For example, if the species is not in the list they could add a species? Even if it doesn’t get added to the list but they have the option to add a species not in the list. Is there any way to do that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
