Overriding system language in KoBoCollect

Hi,

We’ve had a number of situations where smartphones that have been purchased for use in some countries haven’t come installed with the language pack for that country (e.g. phones we purchased in Burkina Faso had been imported from Malaysia, and didn’t have French as a language option - and it proved impossible to install it, as the phone was locked down by the vendor).

Might there be any possibility of providing the option to override the system language in KoBoCollect for these kind of eventualities (as it’s happening frequently - and it’s frustrating not to be able to get Kobo running in a language I know it has translations for!)

Thanks for any thoughts or feedback,

Chris.

Hi Chris,

The app currently automatically displays the language that your system is set to use. Your best option is to install the missing locale. There are a number of ways to do that, one of which is by using apps such as this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.c_lis.ccl.morelocale. (If the devices are using Android 4.2 or up you will have to get technically involved a little bit by enabling debug mode on the device and using ADB to grant permissions, or unlocking the phone and installing SuperUser - both of which are explained in the respective app descriptions on the Play Store.)

Best,

Tino
