Previously collected KoboToolbox submission fields turned blank after adding Dari and Pashto to a deployed form

We deployed a Labor Force Assessment questionnaire in KoboToolbox and collected around 700 submissions successfully. Initially, all submitted data were visible in the Data tab, including demographic information such as respondent name, national ID number, gender, and many other Labor Force Assessment responses.

Later, a colleague with edit access added two additional languages to the form, Dari and Pashto, which were not included when the form was originally deployed and when most submissions had already been collected.

After this update, many fields in the existing submissions started appearing blank in the Data tab. At first, I noticed that the respondent’s name, national ID number, and gender were missing, but after further checking, I found that many other Labor Force Assessment questions were also blank. The project still shows all submissions, and some fields remain visible, but a large number of previously collected values are no longer appearing.

I have already tried the following:

  • checked the Data table and individual submissions

  • reviewed display and language options

  • exported the data

  • reviewed the current form structure

  • compared visible and blank fields

Unfortunately, I have not been able to recover the missing values.

I would highly appreciate guidance on the following:

  1. Has anyone experienced this after adding languages to a deployed form?

  2. Could adding languages have changed the mapping or structure of previously collected data?

  3. Is there any way to restore or recover the missing values from existing submissions?

  4. Are there specific checks I should make to confirm whether question names, types, or choices were changed unintentionally?

This issue affects a large portion of our dataset, so that any urgent support would be greatly appreciated.
