Please, is it possible to implement a system that pick a GPS coordinates at the time of sending data?
We are implementing a FAST system almost similar to Kobo to do health surveys at specific remote health facilities in Kenya, batch these files and later send these files to our central server.
Now, for monitoring purposes, is it possible to set the system to automatically pick the GPS coordinates at the back ground as data is being sent to our servers? So that using these GPS Coordinates we can monitor whether data is being collected to in the roght facility.
Also advice on how to cailibrate the GPS to work in a room?
GPS requires line of sight to satellites, and will not work inside a building. And, for the same reason, readings taken out in an open field is often more accurate compared to readings taken beside buildings or foliage.
As a workaround, some will take a reading before entering a building, and use this value for the location data entry.

I have been working with kobo for a while and am in Kenya maybe we can hook up.
for the GPS, as far as am aware, they wont work inside a building and again if you have them read automatically, the accuracy will be low thus you wont pin point the exact position the interview took place.

You can’t force the GPS, though it is recommended that you let your phones get GPS coordinates several times in advance of data collection. This is to populate the “almanac” of satellites and speeds up GPS time. You should be able to get a fix within a minute almost every time. Faster if you have line of sight to the sky. Just because you are indoors does not mean you can’t get a GPS fix, though it is generally slower. It depends a lot on the type of phone you have, and your position indoors.
Alternatively, you could enter your location as a text input or select from a list of locations.
I am sure you are thinking it would be nice to have a map that you could scroll around and peg your location with. It is unlikely we will see a feature like this because of the difficulty of running maps offline. On the other hand, if you are online, your phone will be able to pull an approximate location from the network.
