I am running into a problem regarding the data I have submitted to Kobotoolbox. I have worked on a a project and collected some information which has been showing up and downloading fine in the past (my last download was on the 20th of August). However, now my data shows up blank, as does the Excel sheet I try to download, as shown below.
However, as you can see in the top-right corner, there are actually submissions in the server. The fact that there are submissions can be seen in the following screenshot too
Yesterday I transferred the entire project to a colleague who had full permissions anyway. He has the same issue, with the submitted data not showing up for him either. Refreshing the page or logging out and back in doesn’t help either. Could anyone please kindly advise on how we can ‘retrieve’ the data that have been previously submitted?
I am not sure if I am the admin owner. I originally created the project. I changed project ownership from the ‘Sharing’ bar in the ‘Settings’ tab. I am not sure if this transfers admin ownership as well?
Nevertheless, I saw from the Support documentation that the data table might take a while to reappear when project ownership has been transferred. Perhaps solving the problem is only a matter of waiting?
Unfortunately, the data has not made a reappearance. We were wondering if it would help transferring project ownership to me? Do you think that would make the data reappear, or possibly just ‘reset’ the waiting period?
Hi Kal_Lam! I have the same exact issue. I noticed it happened earlier this week with one of my forms. The data are not showing for almost the entire day, then reappeared around dinner time. But, yesterday the data of two Kobo forms are not displaying after it’s transferred to another account.
Hi Kal_Lam. I am having a similar problem where it is showing two of my projects have no submitted data for the last 5 days. Can you help?

Great! I did the same with a test project (with only 3 submissions) and then I was able to view and download the data. With the main project though, as it contains data not backed up, we prefer no to take the risk. @Kal_Lam we would truly appreciate your guidance here. Is it something secure to do?
@ecdelrosario, @be_center, @sergiousme it’s completely safe and secure to transfer the project ownership of a project from one account to another. The time that it takes to transfer project ownership should only depend on the email ID that approves the action (when the project is transferred).
If the approval is made late, the time to transfer a project will take a long while if the approval is made quick the time to transfer a project will be immediate (as this is an action made within the same server).
However, to this day we are not able to access the data. In my prior experience, the whole transfer process used to take a couple of hours, being noticed the time you suggest to accept the transference. But this is not the case now as there has been more than week now.
@christiaan, @ecdelrosario, @be_center, @sergiousme thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have come to know that it’s a bug on our side and hence we are investigating the issue. We will update you once we resolve this issue.
Thank you once again for all your kind patience and support.
@ecdelrosario, @sergiousme, could you also kindly share with us the details as requested above through a private message so that it would be easy for us to troubleshoot this case and fix the bug? TIA
