I think the “Server error 500” error is NOT caused by the duplicate name.
You can (and should) always test your form here: ODK - XLSForm Online v2.x
There you will get an error message for a duplicate name
But KoBo Toolbox will NOT show any such error on preview or deployment, instead will just change the 2nd name to OldName_001, Of course this may create problems in the form, e.g. if your logic should reference the 2nd name. If you download the form as XLS you will see the changed name in the name column and an additional column “$given_name” (with your original duplicate).

Thank you for your reply. The problem is that i can’t download the xls file. When i try it gives me the server error 500 message…

Hi Ellen, the source of the breaking form lay in the settings of your score-type questions. It’s unclear at the moment what may have caused this, but in the meantime a fix is to delete the [object, object] values if they are present:
