Time spend on Interview

Hi

I have some interview indicating wrong minutes spend on interview and ideally one was to take an average of 30minutes but i end-up with some recodes with less than 10 to 4 minutes, again when i hide the time from script for the interviewer not to get see, i ended-up with '“null” from the time variable.see attached my time data.

Regards,
Edward.

Hi Edward,
No problem, let’s see how we can help you. Can you share the form with me that produces that error?

You want to save the start and end parameters automatically and have them hidden, so that only KoBoCollect will enter them and not the user. Exposing the questions to the user means the time is saved based on what the user enters, and the time suggested for each question will be based on the time the question was loaded.

I’m attaching a virgin form produced by KoBoForm that shows how the start and end questions are added as hidden and with preload parameters added to save the time automatically. You can also see this by creating a new form on KoBoForm and clicking on the start (or end) question, then click on Show advanced properties to see the settings used to create these questions.

Hope this helps,

Tino

In addition to start/end time stamps, is
it possible to insert intermediate hidden time stamps?

We want to know how long each part of
our survey takes and we don’t want surveyors taking time to enter the time
(even using time=now means they must swipe past several more questions
in an already long instrument.)

Thanks,

Hi Paul,

Someone asked the same question on a different list recently. The response was that it’s not technically possible but there is a workaround that gives you essentially what you’re looking for:

On the formhub-users list, someone asked:

I am using ODK to conduct a survey and i want to have automatic timestamp after each section.

Martijn wrote:

I think the closest you can get to this functionality is to add a relevant to a calculated item (with calculation: now() ). The relevant could check whether the last question of the previous section was answered. This is not foolproof, though as you can’t really guarantee the order in which questions are answered.

And later Yaw wrote:

Make sure the data type of that now() prompt is dateTime

Hope this helps.
