Hello. I read this entire thread, and I want to make sure I have a proper understanding on how the data is set up. If I were to merge a spreadsheet using stata and suppose one spreadsheet only had the _index variable and other spreadsheets had the _parent_index variable. In Stata, the merging variable needs to have the same variable name. Would it be feasible to change the _index variable name to _parent_index in the spreadsheet with only _index and merge one to many using _parent_index?

Welcome to the community, @mergingquestion! Yes, you can always download your data in XLS format and then change the variable names as required.
