Hi, one of our researchers has been trying to upload a survey and is receiving the error message “Generic Exception: Error (413)”.
Other forum posts on this error message indicate that it can come from large media files. However, our survey has no photos, audio, or other media. The researcher has been able to upload other surveys from the same tablet with no issues. Any ideas of what could be causing this error or how to resolve it? Thank you!
Welcome to the community, @lucykatherine! Could you also share with us a screenshot, please? Is your team facing this issue with Collect Android App
or Webform
?
Thanks! Screenshot attached here. This is in the Collect Android app.
FWIW I’m able to upload a largish form with multiple media attachments to our Global server (kc.kobotoolbox.org) right now with no problems.
Does your form perhaps have background audio enabled? That could result in a large audio file being attached to your form, somewhat in the background…
Thanks for your reply. Background audio is not enabled, no. We have been able to upload many other surveys from the same form without an issue. It seems like this one survey became corrupted somehow? I can try an offline transfer if necessary, but not sure how to prevent this from happening again.
Is it just this one submission that cant be uploaded off the device, or all submissions for this same form?
Are you able to share the XLSForm here?
Hi, It was just one submission that could not be uploaded. I actually just resolved the issue by doing an offline manual submission. In doing so, I saw that the submission had a very large audio-recording file attached to it. I am not sure how this could have happened, as the form does not have background audio included and none of the other submissions have had this issue. After removing the audio file I was able to manually upload the survey. Thank you for your help with troubleshooting this!
Well done on resolving it via a manual upload! Perhaps they inadvertently ‘butt-dialed’ the audio question and left it running for too long…
