I would like to be able to manually collect a GPS point by simply tapping any point(s) on a map to collect the location coordinates and not use the device GPS. So as an option the user can bypass the device GPS if required.
My enumerators can see from the map where the POI is and can just tap to create the point.
Have you tried using the placement-map under the appearance column while designing your xlsform as outlined in the image below (it should solve your issue):
