Maybe the following aspect could be added to the article. Independently of this: Do you have an answer on this challenge?
Background: We have organized access to the data collected by KoboCollect through PowerBI (user rights are taken care of there). Unfortunately, PowerBI can show pictures only in the form of a URL (to be opened in a browser).
Therefore, it is necessary to have URLs which work WITHOUT prior login to a kobo account – is this possible?
If not, I assume that the respective account would need “view submission” rights, so we would need to grant access not only to the photos, but to all data, correct?

Have you tried the same in Power BI by making your data public (in KoBoToolbox)? Maybe that should help you solve your issue?
…have not tried that, because we can’t make the data public. Do I assume correctly that it is not possible to make only img files public?

No this is not possible.
